According to reports, Singapore’s second and largestdesalination plant made by Hyflux will soon begin the production of the world’s cheapest desalinated water, at the rate of 45 cents per cubic metre, after completion in 2013.
Also, this is possible owing to the enhancement in theMembrane Technology, as well as the ‘larger scale of the Tuaspring Desalination Plant compared to its predecessor and the integration of the 400-megawatt power plant that is on site’.
The Group’s President and CEO of Hyflux, Olivia Lum, stated, “the group will aim to incorporate technology which will revolutionize the energy efficiency of its desalinationprocess, to further lower water tariffs, as the team works tirelessly to hit upon the Solution that will bring energy costs down at its plants”.
Hence, Hyflux has announced that it has secured a $150 million financial package, for the desalination plant and it is on point in terms of securing finances for the power plant, as the Group has raised $400 million through ‘Class A Preference Share’ in the month of April, most of which will go to the Tuaspring project.
Moreover, the project, which was announced in April, is said to design, build, own, and run the plant, as construction will commence at Tuas Ave 3 in the 4th quarter of 2011.
